Bowsman

Just 13 kilometers north of Swan River on Highway #10, lies the Village of Bowsman. Surrounded by fields, with a magnificent view of the Porcupine Mountain to the north-west, it is a picturesque place. A small creek flows through the south end of the village, a part of the geological structure that forms the natural amphitheatre ball diamond. Once home to the Bowsman Maroons baseball team that was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001, this is one of the busy centers of activity for families. The skating arena tops one hill and the k-grade 8 school graces the level side of the other. It is a great place to play ball or soccer in summer or go tobogganing in winter. Only two blocks away is the Curling Rink; another site of many fun activities such as curling, bingo, socials and weddings. The Legion Hall is another venue for many of these activities as well. Several businesses serve our community. The freshly renovated hotel boasts a full-length mural on the face of it, painted by an international artist, which brings visitors just to see the scenic beauty it displays. The grocery store that serves us is community owned and operated and promotes the use of local produce, meat and backed goods. Among the many home-based businesses are such services as hairdressers, caterers, small engine repair, home-baked foods and crafts, taxidermy, guides and outfitters, and a service center for large diesel engines. There is a village office, post office, fire hall and library. Churches of two different denominations are available in town. There are several active clubs such as the Seniors, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Bowsman Lions. Bowsman is a friendly place to visit and a great place to raise a family. The various community clubs and church groups present social and recreational opportunities for families and friends to gather, from Spring Teas to Fall Suppers. There are annual events such as the Bull-a-Rama, the Halloween Party, the Christmas Party that features horse-drawn sleigh rides as well as Santa and the Family Fun Day in summer with pancake breakfast, games rides and much more. The close proximity to the lakes and forest of the Porcupine Mountain adds such activities as hunting, fishing, swimming, quadding or trail riding or in winter-snowmobiling and ice fishing.

Upon entering our village, the sign says, “WELCOME TO BOWSMAN”. We mean it. Come and enjoy our hospitality.
