Bowsman The Village of Bowsman is located on Highway # 10 thirteen kilometers north of Swan River. The small town took its name from the Bowsman River which runs along the edge of the town. The village has a picturesque view of the Porcupine Mountains to the west and fields and forest to the east. At one time Bowsman was a bustling, busy town. It boasted three well-known, thriving sawmills. T.A. Burrows, Caverly Lumber Company and McHaffie’s Mill. Along the railroad line stood seven elevators, and on the north edge a small golf course. The burning of the biffies in 1967 launched Bowsman into TV fame. Bowsman has always been the place to go play or watch baseball. The natural amphitheatre ball diamond was the perfect place to watch the Bowsman Maroons Baseball Team. The team was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame on June 9,2001. The diamond is still used today, mostly for slow-pitch games. Although small the village still has much to offer. A Co-op store, a hotel, school, skating rink, curling rink, churches, post office, library, Agri-core, auto & industrial repair, electricians, hairdressers, painters and decorators.
